Our mission is to provide hope, information, education and support for families and friends of those in the criminal justice system from the time of arrest, throughout incarceration, and during the re-entry process.

THE BARS(of Iowa)
Living Beyond the Bars (of Iowa) is a non-profit organization that offers re-entry assistance for those leaving prison. We do this primarily through a state-wide reentry resource guide - First Stop After Prison.
Our community includes experienced prison volunteers, formerly incarcerated individuals and family members. We know that every situation is different. There are many, many people and organizations across Iowa who want to assist with the challenge of reentering society after prison. One of our missions is to connect incarcerated individuals with those organizations.
Living Beyond the Bars is a registered non-profit organization. We are entirely volunteer-driven and welcome both additional volunteers and financial support. (Tax EIN #: 83-1066543)
WHAT WE ARE NOT
Living Beyond the Bars (of Iowa) is not part of the Iowa Department of Corrections. We do not have therapists or other licensed staff. We are not a faith-based organization. We do not charge for any of our services.
